ART 299 Review

There are two videos below. One for found object/kinetic sculpture and one for an alternative drawing process.

Art 215
Spring 2007

This is a found object sculpture created for my Art 215 class. The only criteria was that we were assigned one object that we had to incorporate into the sculpture. My assigned object was a spatula, which made a perfect arm for standing the dominoes back up.

The rest of the sculpture is made from other easy to find objects which include a bike rim, five gallon bucket, toy gears, an electric motor, some PVC and aluminum pipe and of course dominoes!

Art 218
Spring 2007

As an Art 218 assignment, I was to come up with an alternative drawing process. I built a machine that uses circular motion to apply paint to a surface. Below is a video of how the machine operates as well as some pictures of the art work it creates.

I use clear cellophane in the video so that the process can be observed. I consider the machine itself a found object sculpture. It is made from common materials such as PVC pipe, plexiglass, toy gears, a small electric motor and a threaded rod.

The paint flow is controlled by two syringes. Each syringe can hold a different color of paint to get various effects. The motor is controlled by a foot pedal. As the motor spins, it turns a nut which guides it up the threaded rod at a steady pace.
